Since October, ASRU has run on goodwill and a shared calendar. That has worked well, but it leaves some important questions without answers: who decides how money is spent, how new members are admitted, and what happens if people disagree.

Today the working draft of our bylaws was shared with all members. It sets out:

  • the Union’s purpose and its commitment to publishing openly,
  • who can become a member and how,
  • a General Assembly of all members as the highest decision-making body,
  • an elected Council of four officers and up to three further members,
  • how money may be used, and
  • how the bylaws themselves can be changed.

Members have until September 8 to comment. A revised draft will then be put to a founding assembly for a vote. If it is adopted, ASRU will exist as a formal association with elected officers, and the Council will be asked to start the process of incorporating as a nonprofit in Oregon.

Members can find the draft and the comment form in the shared drive.
